Hundred Percent Horse Retirement Livery is run by Mel Betts who has owned and worked with horses for many years.

Mel has been involved with horses since as long as she can remember.  Mel owned her first pony from the age of 11 and just a few years later brought on two youngsters to compete at Pony Club level before going to Huntley School of Equitation to study for her BHS exams.

After spells working at Trent Park Equestrian Centre in London and teaching riding in the US Mel was lucky enough to attend one Monty Roberts’ special training courses at Flag is Up Farms in California. Following this, Mel began to develop her interest in working with horses using non-violent methods.

"I sent my 4 year old Thoroughbred x Welsh mare to Mel on training livery. I had absolute confidence in doing this knowing the excellent results she had achieved with both her own horses and those of other clients. Ruby was a tricky youngster and could be difficult to handle on the ground. Mel worked on her general manners and response to humans as well as specific problem areas including: loading, comfort and confidence with the farrier and stopping her nipping. In addition Mel also worked on basic schooling, hacking alone and traffic-proofing. I was delighted with the results." Emma Slawinski
